Golden Kiku – the first limited edition T-shirt drop

For the launch we start with a very special Treasure: the Golden Kiku .
The fabric of this first drop comes from the Nishijin district of Kyoto – famous for over 1,200 years for its luxurious silk weaves ( Nishijin-ori ).
The Golden Kiku fabric was originally part of a fukuro obi – a festive belt worn over the kimono. These obis are often woven with gold and silver thread and richly decorated with symbolic floral motifs, such as:
Chrysanthemum (kiku): symbol of long life and happiness
Plum blossom (ume): represents hope and renewal
Pine tree: strength and steadfastness
The deep colors of black, red, and gold made this fabric ideal for weddings and ceremonies. In terms of style and technique, it dates back to the second half of the 20th century – a period when kimonos and obis were increasingly less worn in everyday life. Many fabrics were later sold separately, ready to be repurposed.
With KimoTee, we're giving Golden Kiku fabric a second life . No two T-shirts are exactly alike—every detail carries a piece of Japanese history. So you're not just wearing a T-shirt, but a story of tradition, sustainability, and innovation.

From Japan, with Love
With KimoTee, we bring together tradition, modern design, and conscious upcycling . It's an ode to the beauty of the kimono, translated into a T-shirt you can wear every day – stylish, comfortable, and meaningful.
The very first KimoTee collection – Golden Kiku – is now available. A limited edition kimono T-shirt , especially for the first-time fans.
