How it all started...

...at Kimomi, our passion for kimonos began in Japan and China. Tamara Ruben, owner and founder of Kimomi, traveled and lived in China and Japan from 2008 to 2012. She was immediately captivated by the beauty, traditions, and versatility of this classic garment, as well as the sheer variety of exquisite fabrics.

Tamara Ruben, Founder and CEO of Kimomi:
"The kimono represents the epitome of femininity, with its luxurious look, elegant fit, and endless possibilities for color and pattern."

Her dream even then was to one day share her enthusiasm for kimonos with as many women as possible in the West. To make the kimono more accessible and help women feel confident, beautiful, and empowered in this beautiful garment.

In 2019 this dream came true and she started Kitama and in 2025 Kimomi was officially launched.




It's in the name..

...the name Kimomi arose from a long search in which the most important elements that Kimomi stands for were incorporated;

  • MI = Beautiful in Japanese
