How it all started...

...at Kimomi our passion for kimonos started in Japan and China. Tamara Ruben, owner and founder of Kimomi, traveled and lived in China and Japan from 2008 to 2012. She was immediately enchanted by the beauty, traditions and multifunctionality of this classic garment and the amount of the most beautiful fabrics.

"The kimono represents the pinnacle of femininity, with its luxurious look, elegant fit and endless possibilities for colour and pattern".

Her dream then was to share her enthusiasm for kimonos with as many women as possible in the West. To make the kimono more accessible and to help women feel confident, beautiful and powerful in this beautiful garment.

In 2019 this dream came true and she started Kitama and in 2025 Kimomi was officially launched.

It's in the name..

...the name Kimomi originated from a long search in which the most important elements that Kimomi stands for were incorporated;

  • MI = Beautiful in Japanese

We at Kimomi think the kimono is the most beautiful and feminine piece of clothing and we want every woman to feel beautiful in a Kimono.

Self-care

With our beautiful, high-quality kimonos we want to make Self-care accessible. We want to encourage women to take a step back, take a deep breath and appreciate the little moments in life.
